Letter for Parents

Parents/Guardians,

Image result for welcome teacherWelcome back to the school year!  My name is Miss. Pettorossi (or Miss. P!) and I get the wonderful opportunity to teach your child this year!  Before we dive in, here’s a bit about myself:

I grew up in Stoney Creek, Ontario as the oldest of three children.  I moved to St. Catharines in order to attend Brock University, where I received my BSc in Mathematics and BEd.  Now back in Hamilton, I am living my lifelong dream of educating today’s youth!

I’m very excited for this school year to begin!  Although it does not seem like it, I only have your child for a short amount of time and I want to make the most of this opportunity.  I want nothing more than to watch your child flourish and succeed this year and I believe that together we can make this happen.

Teaching begins with making children feel like they’re at home in the classroom.  I believe that when a child feels comfortable, their mind opens to learning.  For that reason, I have and will continue to do my best to provide each and every student with a safe, positive, and inclusive environment.  No matter what goes on in your child’s life, they will always have a safe place in our classroom.

Attached to this letter you will find a list of expectations for your child as they enter this school year.  As I mentioned, the first step in education is having an environment that is positive and welcoming for all.  In order to achieve this, students must understand and follow these expectations.  Please go over these with your child so that we can begin the school year on the right foot!

As an educator, it’s important to me that your child not only learns something new this year in math or science, but develops new skills, makes new friends, and grows as an individual.  That’s why I strongly encourage you to motivate your child to try something new – whether it is a sports team, club, or after-school activity.  Not only are extra-curricular activities fun and engaging for students, but it teaches them qualities like responsibility, self-regulation, and communication outside of the classroom!

Lastly, communication is key!  I may be your child’s teacher, but you are their parent(s)/guardian(s).  It is our collaborative duty to help your child learn and reach their full potential.  Following the attached expectations, there is a space for you to communicate any interests or concerns that you would like me to be aware of.  I want to know everything I can in order to properly accommodate and care for your child’s education!

I encourage you to follow your child’s journey through our classroom blog at http://misspettorossijuniorclassroom.blogspot.ca/ where you can find weekly updates, classroom calendars, parent information, and teacher resources.  If/When you would like to get in contact with me, please do not hesitate!  As I mentioned, communication is vital in your child’s education!  Feel free to contact me through our blog, by phone through the school, or by email.

I cannot wait to work with you and your child – it is going to be an amazing year!

Sincerely,

Heather Pettorossi
